Archaeology
The oldest history can be derived from archaeological discoveries. You will find a treasure of artefacts from pre historic times to the Middle Ages. Signs of habitation have been found since the Bronze Age, such as urns, arrowheads and axes. The discovery of an urn containing crematorium remains was bizarre. The fragment of a knitted glove made from silk and gold tread, which was found in Lebuïnus' tomb, is special and fragile.
Discarded products
A majolica potter worked in Deventer in the 17th century. Many of his discarded products have been found. The most intact samples of this tin-glazed pottery can be seen in a replica of the majolica pottery
Discovery of a treasure
True rare treasure was discovered in 1996. A young man with a metal detector found 200 silver coins, Roman Denarii, in a field near Diepenveen. It was a remarkable discovery, because in those days, the local farmers did not pay with coins. Perhaps this treasure was kept to make jewellery.
